Inviting listeners to step inside its bedroom dance floor for a late-night groove session, Polica's sound is flush with sensual R&B and experimental electro-funk. From song to song, Channy Leaneagh (of GAYNGS) lets her swirling, airy vocals twist around bassist Chris Bierden's bubbling, funk bounce. These days, AutoTune should be considered a privilege, not a right. Leaneagh clearly respects the privilege without abusing it.
Perhaps the most unconventional aspect of the band though lies with its beat makers: Ben Ivascu and Drew Christopherson. The two intertwine, locked-in with almost robotic timing, often taking turns experimenting with explosive, effect-laden blasts. Overall, Polica's knack for trading conventional pop formulas for experimental, yet still-gripping grooves suggests why this relatively new group is selling out clubs throughout the U.S.
