The piano and drum duo of Johnny Iguana and Michael Caskey, respectively, were joined in the studio by Yana Atina, in the role of Claudette, and the sound is a bit like Professor Longhair combined with the Black Keys. With grooves abounding, the band flew through this five-song set with the spirit of early Ray Charles and Pinetop Perkins in tow.
The set, all instrumental, would perhaps have been diluted by lyrics and vocals, and ranges from boogie woogie to barrelhouse to blues without ever landing squarely on any of those genres for long. The set includes songs from the band's first album, "Infernal Piano Plot...HATCHED," and must be described as rollicking.
As for Claudette's role: she dances. And she wears a turban. While she dances.
