The young band formed in 2009 when they were still in high school. The four members include: Rob Grote on guitar and vocals, Mark Larson, also on guitar, Connor Jacobus playing bass and Braden Lawrence on percussion. The smoky and moving voice of Grote produces the emotions in every song, and the band's simplistic, yet profound, melodies and honest lyrics were influenced by Neil Young, Billie Holiday and Tom Waits.
The Districts are having a good year, with a tour opening for White Denim, and garnering great press, including a review and EP stream from Rolling Stone.
All of the songs in this Live Performance are from this new, self-titled EP, which contains three songs from the band's 2012 album Telephone, and two new songs, including "Rocking Chair."
Far away from a significant other, "Long Distance" explores the longing for a distant loved one. The passionate, raw lyrics in "Lyla" are genuine and ominous, "I wake each morning to feel this ground's gone frozen beneath me, I dreamed away these months 'til you were gone." The new song, "Rocking Chair," rocks a guitar solo that leaves a long-lasting impression.
Soulful, expressive and candid, the Districts have a huge sound that should guarantee continued success.
