Originally from Virginia, the evolving sextet has been writing and widely touring since 1999, including runs through Europe and appearances at Bonnaroo Music Festivals. They frequent St. Louis and recently played to an energized crowd at the Duck Room at Blueberry Hill.
Band members include Ward Harrison on guitar, Shawn Galbraith on banjo, Ferd Moyse on fiddle, Ben Jacobs on bass, Brian Gorby on percussion and David Sickmen on guitar. Adding to the distinction and texture of each song is the alternation of lead singers; each band member takes part in either lead or harmony vocals. The Hackensaw Boys exceed in the timing and continuity of their zealous instrumentation; the pauses and pickups reflect their mountain music style, while the less vigorous songs have a magnificent, harmonized simplicity.
With songs lyrically wheeling through both humorous and engaging subject matter, one will find plenty of charisma backed by extraordinary string work in the Hackensaw Boys' performances.
