Led by John Van Deusen, and featuring guitarist Tony Ruland, drummer Braydn Krueger and bassist Eric Sturgeon, the Seattle quartet released its third album Arrows on the Trans label this spring. On the strength Van Deusen's emo-esque songwriting and Chris Walla's crisp production, not to mention a furious performance schedule at SXSW 2011, Lonely Forest has found the kind of buzz that should take them from the forlorn wilderness of indie rock and nearer to the mainstream. With melodies that echo Nada Surf and wry and wild vocals that recall John Roderick of the Long Winters, the young band is slowly but patiently building the following it deserves.
