As a band, St. Louisans Matt Davis (piano/vocals), Frank Bauer (tenor saxophone), Corey Woodruff (drums) and Steve Bauer (electric mandolin/vocals) literally pieced themselves together from factions of Phat noiZ and FolknBluesGrass to form one unit back in 2007. Together they dig up the southern country roots of Missouri with a twist of rock to create some musical moonshine. Hiccups of thoughtful humor bubble up in their music, as on the song “A.F.M. (American Female Mullet)” which describes an ideal (and comic) choice of woman.
The Lucky Old Sons draw inspiration from the likes of Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry and Ray Charles to write and record original music. This collision of creative repertoires can be found on the debut album Friendly Valley. Lucky Old Suns perform at various venues across the Greater St. Louis region, notably Beale on Broadway, Off Broadway and the Atomic Cowboy.
