Basing its name on a '70s Al Green song and taking cues from popular soul and R&B made since, the Chicago-based group joins the so-called revivalist ranks in stride. Singer Stefanie Berecz takes the spotlight with her powerful delivery and a style in the funk diva tradition of Joss Stone. But the Right Now is far from a one-woman show. Guitarist/songwriter Brendan O'Connell and the remaining backing band deliver grooves that pounce from all directions.
The Right Now has stirred the pot with festival appearances including SXSW and by releasing a new album, "Gets Over You," produced by Orgone's Sergio Rios. The group returns to St. Louis to greet new faces and deliver new funky material to fans at The Old Rock House on May 4, in addition to reprising their 2010 Live at KDHX performance.
