There is something about a river that preserves Americana. St. Louis natives, the Trophy Mules, blend past and present influences from country, folk and rock, to produce a sound as inherent to this river delta as Uncle Tupelo, Son Volt and Wilco.

The Trophy Mules were formed in 2009 with Corey Saathoff on acoustic guitar, Larry Rosenhoffer on mandolin and guitar and Dan Huffman on bass. David Clark and Scott Swartz were recently added on drums and pedal steel.

Saathoff spent a decade in the St. Louis music scene, playing in Jerkwater Junction and Brain Regiment before forming The Trophy Mules. Rosenhoffer (formerly of Plaid Hotel and Welding Teacher) and Huffman (Geishamen, Wake Up Report) are other long-term area musicians. Former band members featured prominently on the new album include Shane Maue (electric guitar, pedal steel) and Brian Reed (drums).

The band released its debut record "Sorry Motel" in January 2013. The 10 songs were recorded, mixed and mastered at Jettison Studios just across the river near New Athens, Ill.
