The Georgia-based band embodies the electric-guitar-and-vocals sound of its southern rock roots that is more in the vein of distorted garage than moody blues. Parker Gispert (lead vocals, guitar), Julian Dorio (drums), and Timothy Deaux (bass) form the trio that just released its third album, In the Dark, in March 2010.
The Whigs have leapt into the limelight from their indie rock origins, opening for major acts on tour this summer. This sudden burst onto the mainstream scene has triggered opposing criticisms of In the Dark. It is apparent that the Whigs are ready to take their sound to larger audiences as the group balances gutsier, authentic tracks with what critics are calling "arena-friendly" tunes. As the trio's sound shapes and evolves, their constants are rollicking guitar riffs and catchy lyrics. Listen, then decide for yourself. The Whigs are currently on tour, last appearing in St. Louis at the Gargoyle on April 22, 2010.
