Most young bands begin by imitating their heroes. The "fake it until you make it" maxim is applicable nowhere if not in the music industry. But Those Darlins don't just subscribe to the rock 'n' roll lifestyle, they own it.
Their sophomore record, "Screws Get Loose," is bursting with sassy lines and oily riffs that would be nothing more than tired platitudes in the hands of most bands. The difference in the case of the Darlins is evident to anyone that's seen one of their raucous live shows. Originality and passion of this magnitude can't be synthesized; they can only be conveyed first-hand. These songs aren't ballads of lives imagined; they're grungy chronicles straight from the lips of the next generation's rock 'n' roll heroes.
KDHX welcomes Those Darlins to Off Broadway on September 16.
