After the near breakout of their self-titled album on Saddle Creek in 2007, Adam Stephens and Tyson Vogel set the Two Gallants moniker aside to explore other musical avenues. Whether or not such a lengthy hiatus was intentional, the duo have returned with its first album for ATO Records, "The Bloom and the Blight," a record that careens between ethereal folk and bloodletting punk. That dynamic has long-served the band well; now it's firmly steered by some of Stephens' most emotionally direct songwriting.
For this Live at KDHX session, Stephens and Vogel cut loose on four songs from "The Bloom and the Blight." The duo's passion fuels every note, with a harrowing, gorgeous, harmonica-drenched "Broken Eyes" providing a sublime coda.
