Heavy on the bass, heavy on the psychedelics, Unknown Mortal Orchestra still manages to make music that lifts far off the dirty, fuzzy rock 'n' roll ground.

Making its first appearance in the studios of KDHX, the Portland-based band, led by singer and songwriter Ruban Nielson, tapped three songs from its self-titled debut album. "Little Blu House" builds to a heady, guitar-jamming climax, "Ffunny Ffriends" discovers a highly-singable chorus in some playful lines and "Jello and Juggernaut" is just as potently, strangely sugary as its title would suggest.
