This is the year that Wussy aims to change that, at least a little bit. The band has taken to the road to support two releases, "Strawberry," which hit the street late in 2011, and the upcoming "Buckeye," scheduled to drop in July 2012. Part of their master plan also involves a Twangfest 16 appearance, their second Twangfest appearance to date.
Fronted by Lisa Walker and Ass Ponys founder Chuck Cleaver on shared vocals and guitar, the band's music is by turns reflective and atmospheric, raucous and slashing. What sets them apart from the jangling, droning, noise-making pack are the actual songs that exist in the sonic maelstrom they create. There are melodies and harmonies swirling around in there, and enough lyrical gravitas to give Wussy's musical flights of fancy some midwestern weight.
