About this Media...

  • Date Recorded: April 20, 2010
  • Artist / Band: Zach Hill
  • Hosting Show: Wrong Division
  • Sound: Dan Kinney

Zach Hill is a self-taught drummer, but his home schooling is insanely advanced. Genres and styles -- from math rock to free jazz to metal to experimental rock -- barely hint at his mad skills. Hill paid a visit to KDHX for a smashing and thrashing live performance.

Best known perhaps for his work with the band Hella, Hill has also backed the Deftones sub-project Team Sleep, radical guitarist Nels Cline and indie folk queen Joanna Newsom. He's been called the "Jimi Hendrix of the drums," and you can hear that power and vision on full display on the 2008 solo album Astrological Straits.
