The notes, written by Pokey and dated December 2010, detail how his roots in St. Louis have shaped his music, his voice. I wanted to see if that dog had more bite, so I grabbed a pen. Now, one year later, what you are about to read is a continuation of those liner notes communicated in a correspondence between Pokey and me -- at least that’s how it starts.
Why letters? I could say it's a statement about mail, a timely subject, but that would be erroneous. I'm not going to wax poetic about mail, so for now let's settle for this: It's more amusing than email.
Part 1 of 2 begins in July after the release of "Middle of Everywhere" and ends at Courtesy Diner on Halloween, two days after the Redbirds captured their 11th World Series Championship.
