Some precursors to the big holiday weekend:

Wednesday, July 2

A big night of pop-punk happens at the Demo (4191 Manchester), headlined by Masked Intruder (Madison, Wisconsin).

Direct Hit! (Milwaukee, Wisconsin), the Priceduifkes (Belgium -- awkward time to be in the U.S.) and the Humanoids round out the bill.

Door at 8 p.m., show at 8:30 p.m., with a $14 cover (3 more 20-under, all ages).

-----

Stag Nite at Livery Company (3211 Cherokee) will have a laid-back feel, with performances by folk outfit Griddle Kids, country/grass folk from River Despair, and solo sets from Alvy Caby and Breanna Douglas.

This starts at 9 p.m., with a $5 cover (21+ only).

Thursday, July 3

Thelma and the Sleaze / Bassamp & Dano / the Spiders
The Engine Room at Ferraro's (7700 Ivory)
9 p.m. start; $5 (21+ only)

Heavy, dirty, bluesy raunch & roll from Thelma and the Sleaze (Nashville, Tennessee).

Energetic punk-pop from Bassamp & Dano.

Punk from the Spiders.

-----

Evangeline's Bistro (512 N. Euclid) offers hot jump blues/swing sounds from Robbie & the Rockin' Fools.

This runs 9 p.m. to midnight. I've been told the show is free and all ages, but I can't confirm this on the venue website.

Your Humble Servant,
Dick Caveat
