The tribute album "Just Tell Me That You Want Me" offers a fresh, youthful take on Fleetwood Mac classics.

This indie star-studded collection features 19 updated tracks from the band's lengthy discography. The tracks range in style from artists J Mascis, Trixie Whitley and St. Vincent to Gardens & Villa and Tame Impala.

88.1 KDHX chart position: #1 Americana and #5 CMJ for the week of August 28, 2012

Record label, release date and producers: Produced by Randall Poster and Gelya Robb, "Just Tell Me That You Want Me" was released on August 12, 2012 on the Hear Music label.

Can be heard on: The Record Sto' with Doug Morgan, Feel Like Going Home with Roy Kasten and Train of Thought with Nick Cowan

Hometown: The album's contributors hail from an assortment of cities. The Crystal Ark from Providence, R.I.; Perth, Australia is home to Tame Impala; and Lykke Li comes from Ystad, Skåne, Sweden.

Key tracks: "Rhiannon," performed by female-fronted, garage-pop band Best Coast, reminds the listener of a young Stevie Nicks, but with a greater clarity. Bethany Cosentino's vocals imbue the track with a '60s girl-pop sound. The New Pornographers add a heavier, more uptempo edge to "Think About Me," while retaining the vocal harmonies of the original track. MGMT has the most re-imagined track on the album; its nine-minute, space-age electronic version of "Future Games" could only exist in 2012.

Key lyric: "Well, I've been afraid of changin' / 'Cause I've built my life around you" from "Landslide." One of Fleetwood Mac's most well-known tracks, Antony Hegarty, of both Antony and the Johnsons and Hercules and Love Affair, breathes new life into familiar lyrics. Backed by only an acoustic guitar, his sweet and melancholic tone coupled with his oddly operatic voice allows the listener to connect with the lyrics, originally penned by Stevie Nicks in 1973.

About the producer: Randall Poster, perhaps the better known of the album's two producers, has worked extensively in both television and film. As a music supervisor, Poster is the mastermind behind each of Wes Anderson's soundtracks as well as the music for the second season of HBO's "Boardwalk Empire." Gelya Robb is best known for her work with Poster, as co-producer of 2011's "Rave On Buddy Holly" compilation which featured artists such as The Detroit Cobras, Julian Casablancas and Cee Lo Green.

About the label: Hear Music is a record label owned by Starbucks specializing in exclusive releases for the store's many locations. The label boasts such large names as Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello and James Taylor.

RIYL: An obvious listen for dedicated fans of Fleetwood Mac. Also appealing to those who like the New Pornographers, the Kills and Washed Out.

About the album art: The album cover features the classic and easily recognizable Fleetwood Mac typeface with a large penguin in the center. The bird is a reference to the band's repeated use of the penguin in the form of a logo, album art and merchandise beginning in the late '60s.

What the critics say: "Most of the contributors to 'Just Tell Me That You Want Me' sound just fine, and a few of them -- like Lee Ranaldo and J Mascis' dreamy collaboration on the classic instrumental 'Albatross' -- are downright sublime." -- Noel Murray of the A.V. Club

Previous KDHX features: Annah Bender reviewed Dinosaur Jr. (featuring J Mascis) at LouFest 2012; Best Coast's May 30, 2012 concert at the Firebird was reviewed by Robin Wheeler; and Kathryn Calder of the New Pornographers was interviewed by Will Kyle back in December 2011.
