When reviewing concerts I photograph, I try to avoid words like "epic," but I can't think of a better word to sum of Japanese group Boris' show at the Firebird last night.

I will never forget this show, beginning with the massive number of Orange brand amps that could be seen immediately upon entering the venue. Opening band Pallbearer got the night started promptly at 8 p.m., with a good set that had the crowd head-banging in unison. The band was a perfect paring for Boris. But, of course, once its set ended the crowd pushed forward and waited in anticipation for Boris to take the stage.

Once Takeshi, (who plays the distinct double-necked bass/guitar) and bandmate Wata took the stage, the crowd was on edge in anticipation. But it wasn't until drummer Atsuo made his entrance that I knew I was in for a very special treat to see the band live. I can't really put into words what it is like live, but its sound may be best described a experimental metal/rock (according to Wikipedia at least). All I know is that I am hooked, that I will be picking up some more of its music, and that I may now have some hearing loss.
