When not taking jabs at his less-than-glamorous past as a dishwasher, Father John Misty, aka Joshua Tillman, proved to be quite the showman, dancing and gyrating in front of a delighted and sold-out crowd at the Firebird.

Touring on the album "Fear Fun" -- his first under the moniker Father John Misty -- Tillman's performance was the antithesis of the album title. Often unencumbered by instruments and holding just a mic, Tillman strutted and sang, leading the willing crowd on an enjoyable ride.

San Francisco's Magic Trick opened the evening with a psych-rock/shoegaze hybrid sound that was an apt prelude for what was to come.
