Austin quartet Heartless Bastards delivered a thundering set Tuesday night at the Firebird.

Lead singer Erika Wennerstrom's rich, powerful vocals, paired with the band's tight rhythms, provided the perfect mix of driving beats and haunting lyrics for a late summer night.

Local favorites Tenement Ruth kicked off the night, and Frank Smith -- also hailing from Austin -- followed, warming up the crowd and setting the perfect tone for the night.
