Playing a mixture of R&B, country and funk, Honey Island Swamp Band performed at the Old Rock House on Thursday night.

 

Honey Island Swamp Band was formed in San Francisco by New Orleans-based musicians relocated by Hurricane Katrina. The 2011 New Orleans Jazz Fest was the band's big break. Playing the Fais Do Do stage and releasing their second album, "Good to You," established the band as a must-see act for those that enjoy the New Orleans sound. Band members include Aaron Wilkinson and Chris Mule on guitar and vocals, Garland Paul on drums, Sam Price on base and Trevor Brooks on Hammond B3 organ.

Opening the show was blues musician Jimmy Thackery, who has done it all in 40 years. He was co-founder of the Nighthawks, which he left in 1987. Due to his early beginning, he learned from classic blues musicians such as Buddy Guy and Muddy Waters. His band, the Drivers, was formed in the late '80s and has gone through many transitions, but continues to please fans of classic blues.
