Japandroids guitarist and singer Brian King acknowledged to the audience that the band hasn't stopped through St. Louis frequently enough, and promised an extra-long and energetic set for the sold-out room at the Firebird.

The crowd provided much of the energy themselves, with the front rows bouncing around and matching King's fervor as he jumped around the stage. The duo tore through tracks from their albums "Post-Nothing" and "Celebration Rock," also tossing in some more obscure material from their 7-inch record releases.

Swearin' -- a four-piece band with Brooklyn and Philly ties -- brought along their noise-rock songs to match the headliner, but also showed a softer side with some down-tempo offerings mid-set.
