More than 700 people braved the wintery conditions to watch Jason Isbell perform for a sold out room at Plush on Sunday night. Isbell, backed by a full band, took to the stage and quickly made it known why he is one of the best songwriters around.

After warmly greeting the crowd, Isbell and his band let loose an assault of tunes that at times induced foot stomping and fist pumping, while at other times made you feel like you were watching an old friend share his newest work. Playing a number of songs from his recent album, "Southeastern," Isbell's performance was one for the ages. No nonsense, just straight ahead rock and roll.

Robert Ellis opened the evening and did so with style and grace. Acknowledging that most people were not there for his music, he quickly won over the room with touches of sincerity, followed by a set chalk full of high quality songs.
