The Fox isn’t a notoriously dancer-friendly venue yet the crowd found a way, as Dead and jam band fans will do. The show opened with "Dark Star," jammed smoothly into "Bird Song," followed by "Crazy Fingers." Haynes coaxed fidgety show-goers into finally breaking out into a full on dance party with "Shakedown Street" and other familiar Dead songs such as "Morning Dew," "Uncle John’s Band" and "Terrapin Station."
The Jerry Garcia Celebration proved to be just that, a joyful tribute to the band and the man who brought light and peace to so many people for over 30 years. The infusion of blues, rock, folk and reggae from Jerry Garcia’s vast collection of musical works affects listeners in a way that few bands have. The Grateful Dead's legacy has only maintained its fervor, with devout "Dead Heads" sustaining a passion for the band and for Jerry, who passed away in 1995.
