Concert photos: John Henry and the Engine at Thursdays at the Intersection in Strauss Park, Thursday, August 23

Thursdays at the Intersection featured the sounds of John Henry and the Engine this week.

The band proclaims on their Facebook page that they are "fighting the good rock and roll fight," and that's what they brought to Grand Center. One of the great thing about Thursdays at the Intersection is the variety of musical acts. Markedly different than the last few shows, John Henry and the Engine filled Strauss Park with a soulful rock and roll performance.

Lacking the usual compliment of families and young children, the crowd was much less energetic compared to other Intersection shows. I wouldn't describe the band's sound as feel-good; to me the sound had more of a sad longing to it. Personally I enjoyed seeing them perform and hope to catch them at a local night spot, with a crowd more suited to their style.

The performance was part of the weekly summer concert series Thusdays at the Intersection, presented by PNC Arts Alive in partnership 88.1 KDHX and Grand Center, Inc.

Thursdays at the Intersection continues each week through October 4. For more info, visit the Grand Center event page.
