Ed learned his guitar licks from a past St. Louis favorite J. B. Hutto. Ed and his brother, James "Pookie" Young -- along with other band members -- toured with Hutto when they were teenagers, painting on mustaches to look older.
Ed's band's big break occurred with the arrival of band members Mike Garrett (guitar), Kelly Littleton (drums) and the release of the album "Chicken, Gravy and Biscuits" in 1989. Lil' Ed and the Blues Imperials have released 6 albums and played nearly every major blues festival since that break in 1989.
