Cellist Shannon Hayden took the stage first. Performing with her cello, a set of delay pedals and looped sound, Hayden's unique opening act held the audience mesmerized throughout the set.
When I asked Shannon how she would describe her music, she said, "I hesitate to say 'classical' because of the connotations it brings, but that's what it is -- just putting it in a modern setting." She nonetheless made an impact on the crowd, and was a welcome addition to Lily and Madeleine's set; enhancing their vocals while remaining subtle in her support.
Sisters Lily and Madeleine are remarkably talented. Throughout their harmonies and lyrics, I kept reminding myself that they are both under twenty years old and have only been performing together for a little over a year. They are an act that I hope continues to grow and that they stick with their style and sound, as it truly is something special to hear.
