Man or Astro-man?, Sallie Ford and Wray played at the Firebird on Wednesday night, and put on an incredible show.

Birmingham, Alabama based Wray got things started with a great toe tapping set while abstract projections flooded the stage. Reminiscent of the band the Step Kids, I found them to be a great beginning for what was about to come.

Up next was Sallie Ford and as a longtime follower of Ford, I was unsure of what to expect from her performance. After the shocking decision to disband the original lineup of "Sallie Ford and the Sound Outside," I wasn't sure if I would like the new sound or not. As it turns out, Ford's new direction is filled with more energy and experimentation, a ton of new songs and I'm excited by the announcement of a new album in the fall.

Man or Astroman? put on a spectacular show, complete with videos in the background, band members in costumes and lots of humorous banter between songs. Each member exudes energy and live performance skill and did not slow down at any point during the set. The show climaxed with drummer "Birdstuff" (Brian Teasley) slowly beginning to break down his drum set, throwing the pieces behind him, beginning with his cymbal and leaving just the snare.
