Concert photos: Phosphorescent (with Caveman) at the Firebird, Monday, January 27

Phosphorescent Phosphorescent Kate McDaniel

Icy temperatures did not keep a crowd from filling the Firebird for Phosphorescent's long awaited return to St. Louis.

Frontman and songwriter, Matthew Houck, poured his heart out on-stage as the songs fluctuated from raw to tender and soaring to battered. Toes, fingers, and hearts thawed as the set moved from a full band to just Houck alone on the stage.

Brooklyn-based Caveman opened the show and did their part to warm up the frozen crowd. The indie-pop quintet successfully shook the cold off of the crowd with an up-tempo set, filled with expansive melodies and layered harmonies.
