But there was no foolin' the crowd. While the sound was easy listening, the lyrics were spirited and snide, and to prove it, vocalist and guitarist Ryne Watts had his expectant baby momma join him on stage for "I Ain't Taking You Home."
Chicago Blues Angels packed their set chock-full with a whole lot of soul. Herman Hines' deep and powerful vocals carried above Armando Cotez's rockabilly guitar, while at stage-left bassist Brad Ber played his electric as if it were an upright. The boys brought the blues hard and fast, it was close to being the highlight of the night.
But of course, the Rum Drum Ramblers took to the stage and lit up Off Broadway in a barrage of bold and quintessential St. Louis blues. In celebration of their latest record release, the threesome bridged the gap between punk and blues as always and dawned a night of surefire tunes. It was a shame the night had to end so early; the crowd was ready to dance and holler much further into the night.
