Instrumental fusion band Snarky Puppy performed at the Old Rock House on Friday, much to the delight of a packed dance floor.

The Denton, Texas based band -- lead by bassist Michael League -- is a collective of nearly 30 musicians, and on Friday evening it featured eight members, including a guest percussionist from Tokyo.

Having been dubbed "one of the most inventive in sound and funk since Maynard Ferguson" by jazz writer Cicily Janus, Snarky Puppy definitely delivered on the funk, driving the crowd through a long groove of bass and beat-driven numbers, and making sure to allow ample solos for each musician to highlight their immense talents. The mix of brass, keys, bass and percussion was upbeat and seductive and left the crowd impressed by a group of truly skilled instrumentalists.
