Friday evening the Old Rock House played host to Spanish Gold, currently on tour in support of their debut album, "South of Nowhere."

Fronted by Dante Schwebel (of City and Colour) on guitar and vocals, with the beats being supremely anchored by Patrick Hallahan (from My Morning Jacket), Spanish Gold rounded out as a six piece and brought a thick groove, a warm feel and a bit of southern psychedelia to the stage.

With Schwebel belting out soulful lyrics, backed by an ever impressive cast of musicians, those in attendance got to take in a sound of rhythm and soul that is easily danceable, and also has enough grit to punch you in the ears when you least expect it.

If you missed the show but are looking for a new rock and roll record to ease into the summer, "South of Nowhere" should be near the top of your list.
