The show was sold-out and the crowd was packed in and considerably younger than I would have expected. I met fans that had traveled from as far as Nashville and Philadelphia to see the show at the Old Rock House, so I had to ask myself, "Where have I been?"
The Baptist Generals, out of Texas, kicked off the evening and provided an excellent set that flowed well with quirky and abrupt songs that combined the acoustic guitar and some electronics, along with a very fun large guitarrón.
Singer-songwriter John Darnielle bantered and told stories to the crowd in between his musical musings, which seemed like a continuation of the banter and storytelling. With music full of rich imagery and narrative it was easy to see why the cramped crowd would be so ardently captivated.
