An alien landing in Sauget on Wednesday night would have been surprised to learn three things about the rock show taking place at Pop's.

First, this was the Wombats' first visit to St. Louis. Second, the U.K. band only just broke through stateside with a single, "Jump Into the Fog." And third, despite the keyboards and dance beats, this band can sincerely rock a party.

The night started with an energetic, if theatrical, set from Stockholm-based the Royal Concept, who were making their first visit to the U.S. Taking second billing, the Brits of Morning Parade delivered, with guitars and gusto leading the way.

But it was the Wombats who earned top billing with a raucous tour through the material of their two albums to date. By the time the headliners took the stage, the enthusiasm of the several hundred attendees was palpable and already tinged with sweat. Despite the Cure-esque songs found on their records, the band had their young fans chanting and crowd surfing by the end of the night. This may have been a Tour de Britpop, but it ended with a bang.
