Playing the first show in their two-night run at the Pageant on Friday night, Umphrey's McGee began the show earlier than most with a start before 9 p.m., so they could continue playing a full two sets before close. Hailed as the the "last remaining jam band" they did not disappoint and stayed true to their word, putting on an impressive show. An impressive light show and fog machine helped to create a wonderful atmosphere in the Pageant.
The Mike Dillon Band opened for Umphrey's McGee, and were a great pairing for the band. A wave of energy, trombonist Carly Meyers jumped around a stage between breaths, using a whistle and a set of Moog pedals to compliment Mike Dillon's percussion. That energy was felt within the rest of band as well. Near the end of the set, Dillon jumped over his vibraphone and other percussion instruments several times, with the crowd singing in unison to his vocals.
