The last couple of visits by Dave Alvin coincided with tornadoes and storms in the area.

On this visit Dave brought his brother, Phil Alvin, instead. The two Alvins have had a strained relationship in the past, but an illness for Phil brought the brothers together again for the Open Highway Music Festival at Off Broadway.

They also renewed a long standing appreciation of "Big Bill Broonzy." This latest collaboration by the brothers features many songs by the historic Broonzy, but the song this scribe liked most was "Brothers." With the thaw in the brother's relationship, we can all look forward to many satisfying future visits by the Alvins.

Candye Kane complemented the Alvins with some of the rocking numbers she is famous for. Just a note about Candye - She has been fighting ovarian cancer for a couple of years. More information on her condition can be found at candyekane.com.

The best part of the entire concert were the stories told by Dave and Candye. These shared experiences resulted in a very warm bond between the musicians and the audience.
