They used to shout "Boy, you ain't a poet -- just a drunk with a pen" according to a weary Hayes Carll on his tune "It's Hard Out Here." And just as Hayes went on to prove them all wrong, now's your chance to do the same. You might win tickets to the show, attend the soundcheck and meet Hayes Carll in the process.

This is the KDHX Drunken Poet's Dream Hay-ku Contest: you're a Hayes Carll haiku away from winning yourself some tickets to see the show on Sunday, March 18 at The Sheldon, attending the soundcheck and meeting the man himself.

Those who participated in last year's Decemberists Haiku Contest will remember how this works: we're looking for haikus that have something to do with Hayes Carll: the man, his music, your experience with his music, his live shows, his soft hair and big blue eyes...you name it.

A haiku, as you'll remember, is in 5/7/5 syllable meter. For Example, here's one about Hayes' album "KMAG YOYO":

"Kiss my ass goodbye"

Followed by "You're on your own"

Is what that stands for.

See? It's easy, it's fun, and you learned something today. We have four (4) pairs of tickets to giveaway: you and a guest will see the show, attend the soundcheck, and meet Hayes Carll. You can win them following these incredibly easy rules.

THE SIMPLE RULES!

1. PLEASE give us some way to contact you in the Disqus comments field. Can't say this enough: if you win, and we can't get ahold of you, that's no good at all. There are a few easy ways to do this. You can click "Login" to Disqus near the comment field and login via any of the options (Facebook, Google, etc.). Alternately, leave your email address in your comment in an "Joe Blow AT email.com" format if you'd like (to avoid evil spam crawling internet bots).

2. This contest runs from now until Friday March 16th at 3 pm. Winners will be contacted via Disqus or a your provided email shortly after.

3. Enter as many comments as you'd like, but only one of your answers will be eligible. Go crazy.

4. Remember to follow the 5/7/5 haiku syllable format or we must disqualify you. Example: "It's five syllables/the next line will have seven/and then back to five."

Now...ready, set, unlease your Hayes haikus!
