Update: Hayes Carll contest winners

To paraphrase The Pixies: "HAYES! Been tryin' to meet you!" And that's what we gave you the chance to do -- meet Hayes Carll and attend his soundcheck, followed by his show at the Sheldon this Sunday, March 18 -- by writing a Hayes Carll haiku. A Hay-ku, if you will.

Many of you proved just as witty and wise as Hayes Carll himself, and it was hard to narrow down four winners. But four of you (and a friend each) are bonafide winners. Those who didn't win: don't kick yourself, the KDHX-sponsored show still has tickets available! As another consolation prize, KDHX has an exclusive, previously unrecorded track by Hayes up today you're gonna like. And if that's not enough, we're doing another soundcheck/meet-and-greet contest next week for a little someone named Andrew Bird. Details to come on that one, so check back at our Facebook and Twitter pages often.

And now, your winners:

First off is Linda, who inserted herself in her favorite Hayes' song with an added, forward proposal --

Flowers and Liquor

Outrageous IS Contagious

Yessss, I'll spend the night!

Next up is joepo, who has a counterpoint to the opposites attract optimism of Hayes' "Another Like You." --

Met her at a bar

A Republican lady

Didn’t hit it off

Next is Matt Champion who recalled one of Hayes' most hilarious on-stage anecdotes and true anti-rock star moments. Blame Canada? Sure, why not! --

Those Canuck police,

They busted him with an orange.

DAMN YOU, CANADA!

And you're final winner is AnnieLu, who probably speaks for many a lady when she says she'll never do Hayes wrong the way his ex did on "She Left Me For Jesus." --

Hayes, drunken poet,

Wouldn't leave you for Jesus

See you in the Lou

Thank you everyone who participated! And, as previously mentioned, check back Facebook and Twitter pages often because the Andrew Bird contest starts next week for his KDHX-sponsored show at The Pageant
