There, Spearman tied a brown extension cord around the handle of his guitar case and hoisted it up the ladder. The way to the roof was dark and long, but exhilarating. The city stretched out before us, boasting its massive sprawl, the Arch glittering in the distance.
On the roof, Spearman broke into the bluesy and darkly playful "Time Machine." The song unfolded like the wind around us, both elements melding into an intoxicating blend. Like the song, with its science-fiction-meets-blues elements, Spearman sat timeless, singing to a city that seemed rapt in attention.
Spearman's emotive ability is deft and limber. The troubadour can pull heartstrings while cracking a sardonic joke. Spearman's timing here is unmatched; "Time Machine" -- with its synthesis of emotion, modernity and tradition -- is a perfect example.
