When reviewing concerts I photograph, I try to avoid words like "epic," but I can't think of a better word to sum of Japanese group Boris' show at the Firebird last night.

The Monophonics brought St. Louis a dose of soul and funk music last night at the Old Rock House.

Wednesday night was a great for soul music, as Lee Fields and the Expressions and Lady performed at 2720 Cherokee.

They Might Be Giants played to a packed audience at the Pageant Friday night, marking the recent release of "Nanobots." It's been a long time since I've had so much fun at a show -- probably the last time I saw them play the Pageant.

In the midst of their 2013 tour, Los Angeles-based reggae band the Aggrolites performed at the Old Rock House last night.

The dance floor was packed, the lights slowly dimmed and silhouettes began forming on stage, creating a wave of excitement amongst the audience.

Friday night marked the fourth Anniversary of St. Louis concert venue the Firebird. Local bands Roundheels, the Brainstems, the Breaks, and Volcanoes were part of the bill to help celebrate the occasion.

Funky Butt Brass Band hosted their fourth annual Holiday Brasstravaganza at Off Broadway on Saturday night. Members of the band were dressed in sock monkey pajamas and the stage was decked out with lights and trees.

Playing the early show at Off Broadway on Saturday, Ellis Paul took the stage promptly at 7 p.m. and didn't seem to take a breath the rest of the night.

Upon entering the parking lot of the Firebird Friday night, there was an unexpectedly large amount of people, and a long line that reached clear out the door and into the lot.
