"Newsies," a Disney film musical made famous in the early nineties with a younger and lesser known Christian Bale, grew ever more popular after making its Broadway debut in 2012. The stage version of this cult classic went on to receive two Tony® awards for its score and choreography, and has since reached over a million audiences. This latest tour of "Newsies" includes a stop at the Fabulous Fox Theater, offering a nostalgic treat for some and a high-energy theatrical experience for all.
Based on the award-winning children’s novel written by Dave Barry and St. Louis native Ridley Pearson, "Peter and the Starcatcher" was adapted for the stage by Rick Elice and debuted on Broadway in 2012. The play went on to receive five Tony Awards. Since ending its Broadway run in 2013, "Peter and the Starcatcher" has made its way to audiences throughout the U.S. and now, thanks to the Repertory Theater, is here in St. Louis for local audiences to enjoy.
It would seem nearly impossible for group of seven actors to perform an action-packed Superman tale on a 3-foot by 7-foot platform, let alone do it well and in a span of 60 minutes. Not so for Marc Frost and his Chicago-based company, Theater Unspeakable, who most recently took COCA audience members on a high-flying adventure with their original work "Superman 2050."
