I haven't been this excited since the Bacardi B-Live tour brought Santigold, MSTRKRFT, and Amanda Blank to the Pageant for free.
Friday, January 28: Two Fresh, Mux Mool, and Body Language perform at 2720. I'm getting there at straight up 9:00 so I don't miss the energetic set I expect out of the band Body Language, whose last two EPs showcase their innovative blending of DJ/electronic antics with a pop-soul band. Mux Mool comes from the Ghostly camp and his productions vary from chill electronic soundscapes to big hip hop beats. No surprise, then, that the bill is rounded out by North Carolina's Two Fresh.
Body Language's latest release, Speaks EP, is available for free download on their bandcamp site.
Saturday, January 29: Matthew Dear (with band) at Koken Art Factory. Wow. The founder of Ghostly International (see Mux Mool above), Matthew Dear combines electronica, experimental and pop song structure with years of DJing under his Audion monikor. I'm hoping it'll sound like David Bowie (whom he has covered on Sound and Vision) and David Byrne meet Matthew Herbert. This is the artsy, electronic stuff I dream of coming to Saint Louis but never does. But now it does!! I heard it will be a late set, starting at 12:30am. Curt Becker and Narcosis open. Tickets at groovetickets.com.
Tuesday, February 1: I'm DJing over at the Royale, 9:30pm to close. There should be a pretty cool beer tasting going on, too. I'll provide some atmosphere for frothy dancing. Or something.
