New Releases

Here's a pretty comprehensive list of what's coming out in the next couple of months with the notes on the ones I'm looking forward to the most.

Which ones are you hotly anticipating? Which ones did I miss?

2/7

* Van Halen - A Different Kind of Truth (w/David Lee Roth; first album
together in 28 years.)
* Paul McCartney - Kisses on the Bottom
* Fred Eaglesmith - 6 Volts
* The Fray - Scars and Stories
* Ezra Furman - The Year of No Returning

* Ben Kweller - Go Fly a Kite - A big favorite of mine. I've heard it a couple of times and he reverts back to the rock n' roll after his last album's foray into country.

* Jenny Owen Youngs - An Unwavering Band of Light

* Sharon Van Etten - Tramp - SVE put out one of my favorite albums of 2010, Epic. This one isn't grabbing me nearly as much as Epic but there are still some great songs.

* Of Montreal - Paralytic Stalks

* The Lemonheads - Hotel Sessions - Some B-Sides and re-recordings. A must have for collectors but definitely get their S/T album of a few years ago for a better slice of where the Lemonheads are today. And if you don't know their music, get It's A Shame About Ray ... immediately!

* Duke Spirit - Bruiser
* Bahamas - Barchords
* Silverstein - Short Songs
* Drunken Prayer - Into the Missionfield
* Goldfrapp - The Singles
* Twilight Sad - No One Can Ever Know

* Mark Lanegan - Blues Funeral - Dark and haunting. I'd expect nothing less.

* Cocteau Twins - Stars & Topsoil: Best of 1982-1990

2/14

* Big Country - The Crossing (Deluxe edition w/24 b-sides & rarities.)
* Steve Hogarth & Richard Barbieri - Not the Weapon but the Hand
* Kate Rusby - Make the Light
* Mary Black - Songs from the Steeples
* Field Music - Plumb
* Eisley - Deep Space EP
* Rosie Thomas - With Love
* Amos Lee - As the Crow Flies

* Islands - A Sleep & A Forgetting - Really liked their last album. Indie pop with a little glamour.

* Shearwater - Animal Joy - One of the best voices in rock. Haven't heard enough to give it a real review but a couple of the songs are fantastic.

* Barry Adamson - I Will Set You Free

* Audra Mae - S/T - Very similar in voice to Grace Potter (and the Nocturnals). With a little more of a twang. Great stuff.

* Winterpills - All My Lovely Goners
* Punch Brothers Who's Feeling Young Now?
* Tennis - Young and Old

* Heartless Bastards Arrow - Love this album. Will probably make my Top 10 list of 2012.

* Isodore Life Somewhere Else (Steve Kilbey side project.)
* Mitch Ryder - The Promise
* Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Complete Greatest Hits

2/21

* Kevn Kinney - A Good Country Mile
* Fionn Regan - 100 Acres of Sycamore
* Jim White - Where it Hits You
* Josh Ritter Bringing in the Darlings EP
* Galactic - Carnivale Electricos
* Cursive - I Am Gemini

* Sparklehorse - It's a Wonderful Life - I think this one has been floating out there for awhile. RIP Mark Linkous

* Lambchop - Mr. M - Heard this at the station last week. Very quiet upon first listen.

* The Ting Tings - Sounds from Nowheresville - Liked their first album although it's not one I go back to.

* Tindersticks - The Something Rain
* Band of Skulls - Sweet Sour
* Mona - S/T
* Sinead O'Connor - How About I Be Me (and You Be You)

* The Chieftains - Voice of Ages (Many cool guests.) - Featuring guests such as The Decemberists, Punch Brothers, The Secret Sisters, The Low Anthem, The Civil Wars, Pistol Annies, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Bon Iver and more, I'm really looking forward to hearing this.

2/28

* The Cranberries - Roses

* Carolina Chocolate Drops - Leaving Eden (Produced by Buddy Miller.) - Can't wait for this release.

* New Multitudes featuring Jay Farrar - Woody Guthrie tribute
* Loreena McKennitt - Troubadours on the Rhine
* Lyle Lovett - Release Me
* Julia Nunes - Settle Down
* School of Seven Bells - Ghostory
* Pat Green - Songs We Wish We'd Written
* Amy Ray - Lung of Love
* Green River Ordinance Under Fire
* The Wooden Sky - Every Child a Daughter, Every Moon a Son
* Cavo - Thick as Thieves
* Dark New Day - New Tradition
* Carole King - a few reissues
* Altan - Poison Glen
* UFO - Seven Deadly
* Pink Floyd - The Wall (Deluxe.)
* KISS - Destroyer (35th anniversary Deluxe.)
* Michael Thompson Band - Future Past

3/6

* Bruce Springsteen - Wrecking Ball - Very disappointed in his last album. Expectations low. Hope he can beat them.

* Magnetic Fields - Love at the Bottom of the Sea

* Bowerbirds - Clearing - My first band interview at KDHX. Very sweet people and I fell in love with their first album. The one song I've heard sounds a little more accessible and I really like it.

* Kaiser Chiefs - Start the Revolution Without Me
* Owsley Brothers - Cobalt
* Andrew Bird - Break It Yourself
* Fireflight - Now
* Blues Traveler - 25 (2 CD best of.)

3/13

* Soulfly - Enslaved

* Delta Spirit - S/T - Great band. Their last album was excellent. Can't wait to see them with Waters at the Old Rockhouse on March 20.

* Say Anything - Anarchy, My Dear
* Drowner - S/T
* The Decemberists - We All Raise Our Voices to the Air: Live
* Janis Joplin - Live at the Carousel Ballroom 1968

3/20

* The Shins - Port of Morrow - I've only heard one song that didn't grab me on the first few listens. Still holding out hope for a great album.

3/27

* Shinedown - Amaryllis
* The Mars Volta Noctourniquet
* The Cowboy Junkies The Wilderness

* Justin Townes Earle - Nothing's Gonna Change - His last album was one of my favorites of a couple of years ago. Really looking forward to this one.

* The Pierces - You and I
* Joan Osborne - Bring it on Home (Blues covers.)
* Sons of Bill - Sirens (Produced by David Lowery.)
* The Used - Vulnerable
* Janus - Nox Aeris
* Jack Blades - Rock 'N Roll Ride
* Jeff Scott Soto - Damage Control

4/3

* Great Lake Swimmers - New Wild Everywhere - Great band. Very quiet, think Vetiver or Low Anthem. Looking forward to this one.

* Adam Cohen - Like a Man
* Simone Felice S/T
* Our Lady Peace - Curve
* MxPx - Plans Within Plans

* Of Monsters and Men - My Head is an Animal - Their EP has some incredible songs. I can't wait for this full-length from a band who won the American Idol-like show in their native Iceland.

* Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick sequel

4/10

* Alabama Shakes - Boys and Girls - Another band who've only released an EP at this point. However, they're one of the current darlings of the indie world mixing soulful vocals with rock. They put on a mindblowing performance at the Old Rockhouse a couple of months ago and I am really looking forward to this debut LP.

* M. Ward - A Wasteland Companion
* Nanci Griffith - Intersection

* Bonnie Raitt - Slipstream - I haven't heard much about this album but she sounded great at the Grammy's covering Etta James with Alicia Keys.

* Jenny Gillespie - Belita EP

* Counting Crows Underwater Sunshine (Covers.) - They've kind of fallen off the map but one of my favorite college bands. I'll be listening and looking forward to their choices of covers.

4/17

* Dar Williams - In the Time of Gods
* Train California 37
* Jamiroquai Rock Dust Light Star

4/24

* Greg Laswell - Landline

* Jack White - Blunderbuss - This is news to me. I'm really looking forward to this one from the leader of the White Stripes.

* Sarah Jaffe - The Body Wins - Another one I hadn't heard about but am really looking forward to ... hope she can keep getting better.

* Brendan Benson - What Kind of World - The more melodic half of the Raconteurs (with Jack White). His solo albums are always chock full of fun, melodic songs. I'm ready for this one.

* Joe Pug - The Great Despiser - Big, big fan of this Chicago singer/songwriter. His Messenger was on my best of list a couple of years ago and I'm hoping for the best from this, his sophomore LP.
