Favorite fall albums or songs

Spin recently did a story on essential fall albums, with a lot of good choices, but here are 5 of mine:

Nick Drake, Five Leaves Left

Townes Van Zandt, High Low and In Between

Frank Sinatra, September of My Years

Willie Nelson, A Taste of Yesterday's Wine

Jackson Browne, Late For the Sky

Why are these fall albums? They sound especially great in late September and/or they remind me of the season.

What are yours?

Those are nice picks, Chris. I wouldn't have thought of Boxer, but yes, I can hear the season in it...

It still feels a bit early to dive into fall music, but with LouFest over and Labor Day nearly behind us I guess we're closer to cool rainy weather and colorful leaves than I think.

I definitely second Five Leaves Left as a fall album. I'd also add Gillian Welch's Soul Journey ("peaches in the summertime, apples in the fall...."). The National's Boxer feels like a late fall album; I'm thinking November, when the daylight is quickly waning and Matt Beringer's crooning baritone beckons me to stay in, with a glass of whisky and only the lamplight to keep me warm. And finally, I'd add Van Morrison - Tupelo Honey.

I think that these feel like fall albums because they all have some element of reflection and mirror the slackening in the pace of life that comes with cool weather.

Thanks for making the think of how much I love these albums and songs, and how closely music can be tied with the rhythms of the seasons and of our lives.
