PlaylistThe interviews that we do for in-studio sessions typically only see the light of day when aired on the radio; they aren't archived as part of the live performance articles on this site.
While not always memoreable, these interviews are sometimes fun, often interesting and occassionaly great portraits of the artists. Hence, I am beginning to archive the interviews that I've conducted for Gold Soundz on the SoundCloud page for the show. These interviews are often significantly longer than what even airs on the radio (sometimes for better, sometimes for worse), so if you heard them the first time there will still be something worth checking out.
There are currently only a few up there, but more will be added as I have time edit and post them. The interview with Water Liars this past week was particularly enjoyable for me, and I think you'll like it as well. Also coming soon: Interviews with Mount Moriah, Strand of Oaks, Ha Ha Tonka, Theodore, Menomena and more.
I made this list almost two weeks ago, and there are a couple of albums that would probably be included were I to make it today. The new releases from Bon Iver and Centro-matic have both exceeded my expectations by leaps and bounds, and will likely stand up against the rest of the albums here given some more time. The Centro record is probably the best they've releases in 10 years or so.
The Beth Bombara session is all kinds of awesome. I also really like the Futurebirds. Very different sound than on record, I think.
There's some good stuff here, including a couple of albums that I either completely forgot about or forgot that they were released this year. I'll be adding the Teenage Fanclub and Roky Erickson albums to my short list. The Mynabirds may sneak in there as well. I just picked up the album last week but after a few spins it's settling in very nicely.
I'm guessing that I should give the Hollerado and Broken Records albums a full listen as well. I've listened to one or two tracks from each and liked what I heard, but haven't sought out the full records.
