The Space Parlour: Top Albums of 2011...So far...

These are the albums I've been listening to the most this year. All hold up well to repeat listens and deliver more than one or two standout tracks. My favorites so far:

1. DeVotchKa - 100 Lovers - Anti-
2. Tristen - Charlatans At The Garden Gate - American Myth
Charming, hooky-pop songcraft at its best. Great lyrics, too.
3. Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears - Scandalous - Lost Highway
Dynamite! Like James Brown + uh, maybe this...
4. Destroyer - Kaputt - Merge
A sharp left turn from on of my favorites, took some time, but I'm into it.
5. Toro Y Moi - Underneath the Pine - Carpark Records
This is the first Toro Y Moi album that I've immersed myself in & quickly became a favourite this year.
6. Austra - Feel It Break - Domino
Check out "Lose It" "Beat And the Pulse" "Shoot the Water" & the rest! At Firebird on 8/1 opening for Cold Cave.
7. Rum Drum Ramblers - Mean Scene - Lightnin' Thunders
Great songs, ideas and delivery & all fleshed out with horns.
8. The Blind Eyes - With A Bang - Self Released
Packed with straight-ahead hooky pop-rock songs from STL!
9. PJ Harvey - Let England Shake - Vagrant
PJ Harvey for music-lovers ready for a good PJ Harvey album.
10. The Bewitched Hands - Birds & Drums - Sony
Released as an import in May: Just getting into this one.
Honorable mentions: Raphael Saadiq, Yuck, TV On the Radio, Alexander, James Blake, Brute Heart, The Kills, Gruff Rhys, Shilpa Ray & Her Happy Hookers, New York Dolls, Bing Ji Ling, Ezra Furman & The Harpoons, Morning Teleportation, Shannon & The Clams.  To be continued...
