v/a - Thai? Dai! (B-Music)
The Decemberists - The King is Dead (Capitol)
Gang of Four - Content (Yep Roc)
Exene Cervenka - The Excitement of Maybe (Bloodshot)
Sloan - The Double Cross (Yep Roc)
Obits - Moody, Standard & Poor (Sub Pop)

NoMeansNo - Tour EP No. 2 (Wrong) 4 songs, I got an advance on this in the fall but the technical release is 2011. Available as download at Manic Pogo, iTunes, etc. 4 great tracks.: "Jubilation", "All The Little Bourgeois Dreams", "One And The Same", "Perambulate". Favorite is probably "One And The Same".

Dengue Fever - Cannibal Courtship (Fantasy). Getting to finally see them in Mpls. a few ago only adds to the excitement of this release. Favorite track "Thank You Goodbye".

The Blind Eyes - With a Bang (Self-Released). St. Louis' finest band are having a great year so far, lots of great live shows and terrific new album, which is already the #1 local album & 3rd highest played record overall for 2011 on KDHX. As with their first album after a listen or two you will be ready to sing along at their next concert. Favorite track "Satisfactory".

v/a - Thai? Dai!(B-Music). Compilation of Thai bands.  A cover of "Iron Man", psychedelic, bollywoodesque, Ennio Morricone spaghetti western styles, horns, fun. Favorite track "Kanong Krung" by Teungjal Bunpraruksa.

The Decemberists - The King is Dead (Capitol). Favorite track "Down By The Water".

Gang of Four - Content (Yep Roc). As is often the case with a reunited band, it can take a while to decide if the new material works or not.  It's a solid record. Favorite track "Who Am I?".

Exene Cervenka - The Excitement of Maybe (Bloodshot). Might be my favorite of her solo releases. Favorite track "Half Past Forever."

Sloan - The Double Cross (Yep Roc). This album is so good from start to finish. All the songs flow together well, in fact they often end abruptly when playing a single track on the radio. Favorite track is either "Shadow Of Love" or "Beverly Terrace".

Obits - Moody, Standard & Poor (Sub Pop). Missed their recent show here. Definitely moody. Fine garage rock for the teens. Favorite track "Everything Looks Better In The Sun".

Mike Watt - Hyphenated Man (Clenched Wrench). An opera of very short songs with titles all ending in -Man, i.e. "Bird-In-The-Helmet-Man" & "Blowing-It-Out-Both-Ends-Man". My favorite might be "Thistle-Headed-Man". His recent live show doing this album straight through was great.
