St. Louis resident Rev. Matt opened the show at the Gramophone on Saturday night with his two-piece band -- Matt on resonator guitar and a player on upright bass. He has a new CD out titled "Still Fight Left in These Fists," and he played everything from bluegrass to rockabilly to country.
An uninvited guest, Hurricane Isaac, forced all of Saturday's music at the Big Muddy Blues Festival inside.
Within the last year, two St. Louis natives, Devon Allman and Mike Zito, have joined forces. Along with veteran drummer Yonrico Scott (Derek Trucks Band), Cyril Neville (Neville Brothers) and bassist Charlie Wooten, they formed the Royal Southern Brotherhood.
Every band has a specialty. Some are guitar bands, some jam bands, some electronic. Chris Knight is all about lyrics.
