Right after this a guy called up asking who it was, noting that they rock to which I replied, "They do, go buy some right now," and felt like Kyle for a second.Buy it! |

3:17am | Anthrax “Room for One More” from Sound of White Noise (Japanese import version) (Elektra 1993) —A long time ago that if I was ever going to get rid of my 2 disc Japanese import of this record to give him a call. I got rid of a bunch of stuff, held this to the side, but never got it to him. Now I'll never get rid of it.Buy it! |
3:20am | Our Lady Peace “Clumsy” (Columbia 1997) —A suggestion of sorts from our friend Tom, I played it mostly unheard only to think, when the lyrics mention drowning, about how he might have felt as it happened.Buy it! |
3:23am | Peter Gabriel “I grieve” from soundtrack to 'City Of Angels' (Warner 1998) —Self explanatory I suppose. This was on his 2002 album 'Up' but I like this version better. The song ultimately reminds you that life moves on.Buy it! |
3:31am | Chroma Key “You Go Now” (Fight Evil Records) —Kevin Moore, keyboards on the first widely released Dream Theater record, left the band to do a bit more of his own thing.Buy it! |
3:34am | Marty Friedman “Tibet” from Scenes (Shrapnel 1992) —Kyle was conscientious about introducing people to music he thought they might like, something that was an early bond for us. He and I were always looking for the next great discovery. He got a couple of the gang into this artist.Buy it! |
3:37am | Portishead “Wandering Star” from Dummy (Go! 1994) —Our friend Scott was intro'ed to a lot of trip hop and electronica by Kyle, Portishead is a great example of that genre. And this song kicks gluteus maximus.Buy it! |
3:40am | Primus “La Villa Strangiato” from Morrison, CO 6-5-04 (primuslive.com 2004) —This is one of his favorite Rush songs (he was happy they played it at Riverport in August) and he was a Primus fan too. It doesn't take much for me to play Claypool on a regular day.Buy it! |

3:57am | Son House “John The Revelator” from Martin Scorsese Presents The Blues: Son House (Columbia) —Kyle was very spiritual and I wanted play some music to honor that. This old tune has been done a hundred billion (ish) times, I think he would have found this interesting back when I really knew him well.Buy it! |
4:00am | Dirty Dozen Brass Band “Jesus On The Main Line” from Funeral For A Friend (Ropeadope www.ropeadope.com) —This New Orleans style funeral rave up is for me.Buy it! |
4:03am | John Medeski, North Mississippi Allstars & Robert Randolph “I Shall Not Be Moved” from The Word (Ropedope) —I think he would have gotten a chuckle from a Jewish guy playing on a Christian hymn. This whole album is very cool. (And that's not a dig on the musician by the way, just an example of the fun observations my friends and I have always liked).Buy it! |

4:13am | Johnny Cash “You Are My Sunshine” from Unearthed (American 2003) —We sang this to close out his funeral and thought it was appropriate to end this tribute to him the same way. At the funeral it was devastating, but shouldn't it be? Goodbye, Kyle. We miss you.Buy it! |
