Henry Gray “Showers Of Rain”
from Henry Gray Plays Chicago Blues (HighTone Records 2001) —Henry Gray is still playing piano today, and he is one of the GREAT golden era blues piano men - he has NEVER received his full due. He played in Howlin' Wolf's band for years, before leaving to head back to Louisiana to attend to family matters.
Big Maceo Merriweather “Can't You Read”
from The King of Chicago Blues Piano The Best Of Big Maceo (Arhoolie Records 1992) —This one was recorded in 1941, with Tampa Red on guitar and 2nd lead vocals. Interesting trivia bit - Big Maceo's family name was not spelled with "double R's", but he chose to spell it that way his entire career.
Robert Belfour “Norene”
from What's Wrong With You (Fat Possum Records www.fatpossum.com 2000) —Sadly, this song is a tribute to Robert Belfour. Mr. Belfour passed away a week ago, on Feb 26th. He was one of the deepest of the living elder statesment blues players, but he never really did receive the notoriety his talents deserved.
